Who are we and why did we start?
Our founder and CEO (Xander) is a male survivor of domestic abuse. He has experienced some for of abuse for most of his life yet he only realised he was a victim at the age of 47. He reached out for help and none was there. It took a week of him calling and emailing and messaging organisations before someone offered support. A week of being transferred, rejected, ignored and fobbed off. All while living in his car. He was homeless, alone and lost.
Our Head of Service and co-founder (Nikki) was able to get help in 1 hour from asking. She didn't even believe herself to be a victim at the time and yet it took such a short time for someone to say yes to her. After seeing this and after hearing Xander's story, she said to him that something needed to be done. Together they decided to start up a service to help males receive an equal opportunity to their female counterparts. With one third of all victims being male, it was time that the number of services available came up to a similar ratio.
